To help students assess the value of the sites they find, Web expert Kathleen Shrock suggests using the five ws as a rule of thumb:

Who created the site? Can the authors be identified as experts?

What is the author’s purpose in creating the site?

When was the site created or updated?

Where does the information on the site come from?

Why is the information useful to the student?
