Harvard Education Letter Wins Association of Educational
Publishers and National Press Club Honors
CAMBRIDGE, MA--The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) and the National Press Club recently honored an article from the November/December 2003 issue of the Harvard Education Letter (HEL). The article, "Can Educators and Researchers Really Work Together to Improve Learning?" by HEL Editor Michael Sadowski, profiles the effort to start a national Strategic Education Research Partnership among education researchers, school-based practitioners, and federal and state government.
On June 8, HEL was presented the Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Educational Publishing in the Learned Article category at the 2004 Association of Educational Publishers Awards in Alexandria, Virginia. More than 1,400 entries were submitted for 2004 award consideration from which 119 winners were selected. The AEP, founded in 1895, is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in education publishing.
On July 12, the same article will be honored at the National Press Club awards in Washington, DC, receiving honorable mention in the Analytical Newsletter Journalism category. HEL also won 2002 and 2003 National Press Club Awards for Best Analytical Newsletter Journalism.
"The disconnect between education research and K-12 practice has frustrated both educators and researchers for many years," Sadowski says. "As the article underscores, the idea of such a national research partnership is extremely promising, but it can't succeed without a real commitment to change on the part of universities, K-12 schools, foundations, and government agencies."
